Two men were arrested and charged with felony home invasion with a firearm following a high-speed chase and manhunt after they allegedly forced two women into their apartment at gunpoint and robbed them inside the Cypress Grove Apartments.
According to Lauderhill Police Department records, Jayden Hoggins, 21, of Pompano Beach, and Jermiyah Elliott, 24, of North Lauderdale, and multiple additional unidentified accomplices carried out a daring late-night robbery of two women in which they stole thousands of dollars in cash.
The report shows the incident began around 2:40 a.m. when the victims returned to the apartment complex located at 4200 NW 19th Street in Lauderhill after a night out. The two women tell officers they parked their vehicle and were preparing to head inside when two masked men – later identified as Hoggins and Elliott – bum-rushed them armed with handguns.
One of the victims told officers she attempted to flee toward the building but was quickly grabbed by Elliott, who held a gun to her head. The second victim was also detained by one of the men.
Both victims told officers they were “frog-marched” to the entrance of the apartment building, which required the use of a fob to gain access. The men then marched the victims up the stairs to the second floor, where Elliott used the fob to gain entry into the building and a key to unlock the apartment door.
According to police records, both women remained at gunpoint as the suspects forced their way inside. Video surveillance footage later obtained by investigators corroborated the victims’ accounts.
Once inside the apartment, the victims told officers the men led one of the victims into the bedroom, where they made demands for the location of money they believed she had.
Another friend of the victim, along with her child, was asleep in the living room at the time of the robbery but, fortunately, neither woke up during the ordeal.
Records show the men ransacked the bedroom, opening drawers and a jewelry box to search for valuables. Under threats, the victim directed the men to a shoebox hidden in the closet, which contained $6,000 in cash.
Once the men had the cash they were looking for, the victims told police they took the money and cell phones and quickly exited the apartment, leaving the victims shaken.
Lauderhill Police were alerted to the situation once the victims were to find alternative ways to contact them. A pivotal break in the case was the victim’s ability to identify that the men were traveling in a white Tesla, which was quickly located and part of a high-speed pursuit after the driver refused to stop.
The report shows a high-speed chase led police through multiple neighborhoods, ending in Pompano Beach when the Tesla crashed into a fence.
During the pursuit, one of the men was seen throwing a firearm out of the vehicle, which was later recovered by police. The men attempted to flee on foot but were caught with the assistance of K9 units and a police helicopter.
Police recovered additional evidence, including the stolen cash, as well as personal items belonging to the victims.
Both Hoggins and Elliott were transported to the Broward County Main Jail, where they remain without bond.
