Three accused car thieves were arrested for carrying out a Halloween Day vehicle theft spree in Coconut Creek, police said Monday.
Detectives with the Coconut Creek Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) arrested Jerry Cherrington Jr., 28, of Lauderdale Lakes, Cyeanjay Jones, 23, of Lauderdale Lakes, and Dwight Daley, 27, of Coral Springs, for their alleged involvement in the thefts of four cars from several locations throughout the city on Oct. 31, police said.
As police received reports of the thefts, investigators determined they were related. The probe by SET detectives led them to an unspecified municipality outside Coconut Creek, where they watched as several cars they confirmed as stolen were driven in and out of a specific location, police said.
With the help of multiple law enforcement agencies, SET detectives arrested the men and recovered eight stolen cars and two stolen firearms as part of their investigation, police said
Cherrington Jr. was charged with multiple counts of grand theft auto as well as displaying or using a firearm during a felony, among other crimes. Records show he was being held without bond at the Broward County Jail Monday on an immigration hold.
Records show that Jones was charged with grand theft of a firearm, while Daley was charged with grand theft of an auto.
Police said both Jones and Daley were booked into the Broward County Jail. Bond records in their cases were not immediately available Monday.
