Using the ‘Find My iPhone’ app, a robbery victim helped Coral Springs Police unravel a brazen crime spree and nab the trio behind it.
On June 29, Coral Springs Police successfully apprehended three individuals, Jada Clemons, 22, of Fort Lauderdale, Andre Grant, 18, of North Lauderdale, and Desiree Davis, 23, of North Lauderdale, involved in a crime spree that included the robbery of two victims — one left with chemical burns that required immediate transport to the hospital.
According to arrest records for all three individuals, the incidents began with a late-night robbery of a man nearby the Mobil gas station located at 2291 Coral Ridge Drive.
According to the victim, he was walking home from his job at Publix at 11600 West Sample Road when a black sedan approached him.
The victim recounted to CSPD officers how a female, later identified as Clemons, exited the car and requested bus fare, to which the victim said he complied, transferring $2 to Clemons via CashApp.
However, instead of leaving, the victim told CSPD the vehicle circled back, and a man, later identified as Grant, jumped out wearing a black hoodie and demanded his belongings while gesturing as if he had a concealed handgun.
Fearing for his safety, the victim told officers he complied and gave Grant his black Adidas fanny pack and iPhone 14.
The victim said Grant jumped back in the vehicle and headed north on Coral Ridge Drive.
Meanwhile, a second incident occurred just a short distance from Forest Hills Boulevard.
According to records, not long after the first robbery, CSPD officers responded to Broward Health Coral Springs to speak with a 17-year-old female victim with chemical burns who had been transported to the hospital.
Upon interview, the victim told officers she was walking home from a nearby gym when she was robbed and pepper-sprayed by suspects traveling in the same black sedan.
As she walked home, the victim told officers that two people exited the vehicle, and a man, later identified as Grant, put his hand near his waistband and demanded money from the victim.
When she refused, the victim told CSPD Grant sprayed her with a chemical substance, later believed to be pepper spray, causing severe irritation to her skin and eyes.
As the victim screamed for help, Grant allegedly took her Pink Adidas bag, iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple AirPods, and two rings.
In pain and distress, the victim was eventually assisted by two Good Samaritans who brought her to Broward Health Coral Springs Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The investigation took a significant turn when the first victim was transported to his residence to turn on his Find My iPhone app, which instantly pinged that it was located at the McDonald’s at 5367 West Atlantic Boulevard.
As the victim continued to investigate using his iPad, he soon discovered that his credit cards had also been used at the same Mcdonald’s just moments prior.
While CSPD was in pursuit of the location, updated pings were shown to be occurring at the Applebee’s located at 5377 West Atlantic Boulevard.
The report indicates CSPD officers arrived on the scene and quickly observed a black sedan matching the description provided by the victims, with one of the suspects disposing of items in a parking lot trash can.
Upon a search of the vehicle during the traffic stop, several items identified by the victims and a pepper spray gun were recovered.
All three suspects were taken into custody, and upon interview, records show Grant admitted to the robbery and fraudulent use of the victim’s debit cards.
Arrest records also show Clemons confessed to being the getaway driver, while Davis was positively identified as involved by one of the victims.
Clemons, Davis, and Grant were all arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
Clemons was released on a $6,000 bond, while Davis and Grant were released after posting $5,500 bonds.
