Tamarac burger lovers, the wait is over. The city’s new Culver’s restaurant is scheduled to open on July 22.
A banner posted outside the newly built, fast-casual chain restaurant at 8251 W. Commercial Blvd. announced the location’s opening date this week, attracting the attention of passing drivers.
Culver’s is expected to operate daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for lunch and dinner. According to city records, the restaurant has room for 104 customers inside and another 24 in an outdoor patio area. It will also serve drive-thru customers.
The Culver’s project has been in the works since 2021 when Margate-based Medalist Restaurant Group purchased a vacant parcel of land next to Comfort Suites Sawgrass. Tamarac commissioners approved the company’s plan for the 4,550-square-foot restaurant in 2023, city records show.
Culver’s franchises are best known for their hamburgers—known as ButterBurgers—and fresh frozen custard. The Wisconsin-based chain launched in 1984 and, according to its website, has more than 900 family-owned and operated franchises in more than 26 states.
Tamarac Vice Mayor Morey Wright Jr., whose district includes the new Culver’s, said residents are delighted to have another place to eat in the city.
“I’m ecstatic to welcome one of America’s fastest-growing restaurants to Tamarac,” Wright said. “Residents have been asking for more dining options, and Culver’s brings a unique sit-down dining experience that we’re excited to enjoy.”
Tamarac Commissioner Elvin Villalobos said he had monitored the progress of the Culver’s project while driving past several times a week.
“I’m super excited. Just yesterday my oldest daughter exclaimed with excitement, ‘yes, finally’” after seeing the banner, Villalobos said. “Makes me think, even our young people are looking forward to it as well as the many residents that have been expecting it.”
Eric Pierce, owner of Medalist Restaurant Group, had previously said the restaurant aimed to open by September 2023.
Culver’s did not respond to multiple requests for comment from Tamarac Talk.

Tamarac should coin the title, " Fast Food City " !!
Wow Culver's sure sounds like a great dining option. I just can wait to dive into a nice steak, maybe some ribs, seafood (beside frozen shrimp from the fryer) and maybe a pork chop. Maybe Commissioner Wright ought to think about his dining options because they sure aren't up to mine unless I want fast food.
