A GoFundMe campaign is raising money for the family of a 6-year-old girl killed in a crash in Coral Springs Sunday.
Police on Tuesday declined to release the girl’s name, but the online fundraiser and social media posts by family and friends indicate Harlow Tran is the young victim who died in Sunday’s crash.
“Loved by any and everyone who has ever met her, Harlow Tran passed away on May 5th after being involved in a severe car accident,” the GoFundMe campaign page states. “Words can’t adequately describe the joy that filled a room shared with Harlow. She was funny, kind, beautiful, intelligent beyond words, and her absence leaves a gap that could never be filled.”
As of Tuesday morning, nearly $18,000 had been raised toward the campaign’s $20,000 goal.
“Any and all donations are greatly appreciated by her family, and will help provide comfort as they take the time necessary to grieve this indescribable loss,” the page states.
Police said the 6-year-old victim in the crash was ejected from a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday when the Traverse was struck by a speeding 2023 white Mercedes-Ben at Sample Road and Northwest 85th Avenue.
Chevon Dalton Graham, 26, of Fort Lauderdale, was arrested after the crash and charged with vehicular homicide, aggravated fleeing and eluding a crash causing death, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, reckless driving causing property damage, and knowingly driving with a suspended driver’s license, according to police.
Police said Graham was driving the Mercedes-Benz at 5:06 p.m. when a Coral Springs Police officer tried to pull him over for an illegal window tint near the 8500 block of West Sample Road.
When the officer turned on his emergency lights and siren, Graham accelerated at high speed in an attempt to elude the officer, police said. In accordance with police department policy, the officer ended the traffic stop by immediately shutting off his emergency lights and siren, according to the department.
The Mercedes-Benz continued speeding west on Sample Road until it reached Northwest 85th Avenue and collided with the Traverse with two people inside, including the six-year-old girl, police said.
The child, secured in a car seat in the backseat, was ejected from the Traverse while still in the seat, police said. She was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.
The driver of the Traverse, as well as Graham and two of his passengers, were all taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are asking anyone with additional information or videos of the crash to call Traffic Homicide Investigator Xavier Reinoso at 954-346-1269 or email him at xreinoso@coralsprings.gov.
