City Commissioner Nancy Metayer Bowen met alongside other South Florida leaders to discuss affordable housing and climate change at the National Haitian American Elected Officials Network 2023 Leadership Retreat recently in Newark.
Metayer Bowen led and moderated a panel at the event that included representatives from South Florida that, included Miami Workers Center Executive Director Santra Denis, HUD Assistant Deputy Secretary Office of Field and Policy and Management Michele Perez, and Palm Beach County Commissioner Mack Bernard.
According to Metayer Bowen, they discussed climate change’s effects on affordable housing. NHAEON selected her to moderate because of her professional experience and passion for environmental issues.
She shared Coral Springs’s efforts in addressing affordable housing and the city’s sustainability action plan.
For her, participating is important for her and the city because it provides an opportunity to share resources and ideas and leverage the information learned to advocate for policies for first-time homebuyers and rental assistance programs.
“Attending events like NHAEON 2023 Leadership Retreat allows leaders to reflect on the great work that is executed in other parts of the country,” Metayer Bowen said. “I enjoy bringing those positive efforts back to Coral Springs to make our community better.”
