Jaxson Jewell of Coral Springs is officially committed to playing college football at the United States Naval Academy.
A Butler Farms resident, Jewell is entering his senior year at Deerfield Beach High School, where he plays for former Coral Glades Head Coach Cam Thomas.
“It feels great to be officially committed, and there’s just something special about going into my senior year, Jewell said. ” I already know where I’m going to attend college and get my degree. “
Jewell began his athletic career playing baseball and transitioned to football when he was six. He played tackle football with the Coconut Creek Eagles and then also played for the Parkland Rangers.

After starting high school at St. Andrews, Jewell transferred to Deerfield Beach High School. He is also an All-County track and field runner and played on the varsity basketball team.
For college, Jewell always wanted to play Division 1. He attended several summer camps but went into the summer without any offers. He received his first one from Davidson and then quickly committed after his offer from the Navy.
“I knew I would be getting a great education and one of the most prestigious degrees as the USNA is very selective with who they admit and have a 10.8 percent acceptance rating. Compare that with top Ivy League schools like Cornell, whose acceptance rate is 7.5 percent, and you get to see the bigger picture.”
In order to attend the Navy, Jewell will have to go through pages of security clearances and will also need a U.S. Senator or Representative from my state to nominate/recommend me to the USNA. He will also be required to have a military commitment four to five years after graduation.
Jewell will play his final year with Deerfield Beach before college. He will compete in the American Athletics Conference and looks forward to potential homecoming matchups against Florida Atlantic University and the University of South Florida. Jewell will also get to play in the annual Army-Navy game.
