Habitat for Humanity homes in Coral Springs {City of Coral Springs}

An upcoming groundbreaking ceremony will inaugurate a project introducing affordable housing choices to Coral Springs.
On Monday, September 18, at 4:00 p.m., an empty plot of land located at 3630 Riverside Drive will be the site of a groundbreaking ceremony hosted by the City of Coral Springs to mark the city’s first-ever Habitat for Humanity townhomes.
The event will signal the beginning of construction of a project — first approved by the City Commission in December of last year — that aims to address the affordable housing crisis in the area.
During the approval process, the empty plot of land was earmarked and set aside for Habitat for Humanity construction specifically geared toward qualified first-time homebuyers who will benefit from affordable mortgage payments and contribute “sweat equity” to the construction process.
The homes will occupy 0.53 acres of undeveloped land north and west of Riverside Drive and Sample Road, with 13 roughly 1,800 square feet of two and three-bedroom units proposed.
According to city documents, each Habitat for Humanity unit will have a private two-car driveway, an attached one-car garage, a sidewalk connection from the front door to Riverside Drive, a front yard facing Riverside Drive, and a backyard facing a canal.
The northern property will have one building with seven townhouse units, while the southern property will have two buildings with three units each.
In a statement, the City of Coral Springs expressed its pride in launching this partnership, emphasizing its commitment to finding creative solutions to the affordable housing crisis affecting many residents.
“We have heard from residents about the rising cost of living and have actively worked to develop creative solutions to assist with the affordable housing crisis,” the statement read.
“We look forward to working alongside the Habitat for Humanity team and the hardworking, deserving, first-time homeowners who will invest ‘sweat equity’ into their new homes.”
The groundbreaking ceremony represents the first phase of construction on the project, with status updates from the city to follow.
