Presley Geller and Mayor Scott Brook. {City of Coral Springs}
Eight-year-old Presley Geller was selected as Coral Springs’ Mayor for a Day on May 29. There, she met Mayor Scott Brook and witnessed a special visit from the National League of Cities.
After just finishing third grade at Eagle Ridge Elementary, here is what she shared with Coral Springs Talk.
My name is Presley Geller and I was selected to be Mayor for the Day. The reason I wanted to have this opportunity is because I wanted to show that even eight-year-olds can make a difference.
I had the most amazing day! It started with me spending one-on-one time with Mayor Brook. Mayor Brook made me feel important, and he’s super kind. He answered all of my questions about why he wanted to become the mayor and how he became the mayor. He showed me really cool pictures of him with former presidents. I got to meet so many city leaders that were so nice to me. I also got to greet the visitors from the National League of Cities and listen to a presentation on the history of Coral Springs. Did you know that Coral Springs was originally a green bean farm?
I gave out friendship bracelets to people that work in City Hall, and I was so excited that everyone I gave it to wore them. I made a special one for Mayor Brook so that he wouldn’t forget me because I know I won’t forget getting to be Mayor for the Day.
I loved getting a Coral Springs pin and wearing it to school. A lot of my friends asked me about it, and I told them about my day. I hope I inspired them to think that kids can make a difference and to get involved with their community.
