Dragon Delight was temporarily shut down after a state health inspection uncovered 12 violations, including rodents, insects, and improper food handling.
The temporary closure is noted in the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation report as a second recent action the state took. The report claims the 4381 North University Drive location was also ordered closed in March 2023 due to insect issues.
According to the inspection report, state health inspection uncovered disturbing violations, including rodent droppings throughout the restaurant on the floor in the employee bathroom near the dry storage and prep area, under a dry storage shelf in the prep area, on a wall in the exact location, and behind the reach-in coolers.
The report also indicates that dead roaches were discovered on the floor behind one of the coolers in the prep area.
Temperature violations were noted, including fried rice being stored above the recommended cold holding limit of 41 degrees. The operator claimed the rice had been out for less than two hours and moved it under time control measures, but the issue was listed as a repeat violation.
The inspection findings also noted an employee was observed touching their face and preparing food without washing their hands.
Raw shrimp was stored above chopped raw onions in a reach-in cooler, violating food separation guidelines and marking a repeat violation.
One handwashing sink was inaccessible due to a garbage can in front of it, and another was being misused. It contained a stainless steel scrub pad and was used to dump sanitizer water.
The restaurant was ordered to close immediately and must pass reinspection before reopening.
