The Coconut Creek Police Department in Florida is taking proactive steps to ensure a safe and secure holiday season for the community.
As the festive period approaches, the department is ramping up its efforts with increased patrols in critical areas, including ATMs, banks, commercial plazas, restaurants, and gas stations.
To enhance protection, they are deploying bike officers and officers operating T3 vehicles and electric, three-wheeled stand-up vehicles in business districts. Additionally, foot patrols in these areas will be more frequent to boost visibility and communication.
Administrative Officers and Detectives will join the effort, patrolling business areas and parking lots as an added security measure. Marked and unmarked vehicles will also look for suspicious activity in residential neighborhoods.
The “Park, Walk, and Talk” program is vital to their strategy. This initiative encourages officers to leave their vehicles and walk through neighborhoods and business zones, engaging with community members, sharing crime prevention tips, and addressing immediate concerns.
The department has also provided a series of tips for residents to help prevent scams and thefts. These include recommendations for both in-store and online shoppers, such as using the department’s 24/7 Safe Zone for secure online marketplace transactions, never leaving personal items unattended, parking in well-lit areas, and being aware of surroundings.
Online shoppers are advised to use secure websites, opt for credit card payments for better protection, track packages to avoid theft and use delivery instructions to direct where packages should be left.
Drivers are reminded to avoid distractions and have a plan for safe travel home from holiday events. Residents are advised to lock their homes, use outdoor lights, and take advantage of the department’s Vacation Watch Program for added security during their absence.
