Coconut Creek Holds Free Concert to Celebrate Juneteenth

The city of Coconut Creek is holding a free concert in celebration of Juneteenth.

According to the city, “Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of ending slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, on June 19th, the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.”

Music by Visions Band will perform live at the June 16 event. The event will also feature literary readings and guest speakers discussing the history of Juneteenth.

The event will run from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Coconut Creek City Hall courtyard, 4800 West Copans Rd.

Attendees at the free event can purchase food and refreshments from food trucks, including Crunly, Mr. B’s Caribbean Street Food, Potatoes of Steele, The Brasserie, and Libation Nation.

Blankets, chairs, and coolers are allowed; pets are not.
