A man faces charges of burglary with assault after an alleged home invasion, attempted child abduction, and the physical assault of a woman.
On Saturday, August 26, the Coconut Creek Police Department responded to reports of a domestic violence call where a victim and her 6-year-old son were subjected to a terrifying home invasion and assault.
According to details revealed in a warrant for the suspects’ arrest, the alleged assailant in the break-in, later identified as Reginald Spence, 33, of West Park, was an ex-boyfriend of the victim and father to the boy.
The victim told officers she awoke to what she thought were rocks striking her bedroom window. Having experienced similar issues, she suspected Spece was again using the method to get her attention, as he had often done.
According to records, the victim peered out her second-floor bedroom window but saw no one. She eventually opened her front door slightly to investigate, only to be startled by the appearance of Spence.
The arrest report shows Spence violently forced his way into the apartment, pushing the victim aside. The victim told officers she fought and pleaded for him to leave, but he immediately entered a bedroom where her 6-year-old son was sleeping.
Upon picking up the child, the boy reportedly awoke and began to cry and scream, pleading with Spence to put him down. The victim told officers she continued desperately arguing with Spence as he carried the child towards the front door.
During a struggle, the child broke free and retreated to his bedroom, where he locked the door for safety.
Angered, Spence allegedly punched the victim in the face with a closed fist, causing her significant pain and impairing her vision, according to medical records.
Following the assault, Spence fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, and all attempts to locate or contact him were unsuccessful.
On September 4, Spence was located in Deerfield Beach, arrested, and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
