J.P. Taravella’s fall season ends while soccer and basketball are officially underway.
The football team held senior night and recognized Miles Green, Jaeden McGhee, Jaheim Olivieri, Jamichael Barnes, Kyle Duquesnay, Marcus Jean-Baptise, Michael Ghann, Nyheem Robinson, Adrian Myron, Jude Daguilh, Tremaine Myers and Masai Stephens. The Trojans then fell in their game against and dropped to 0-10 for the second time in the last four years. They have won only three times in their previous 44 games, losing this year to Hollywood Hills, Northeast, Pompano Beach, Western, Everglades, Cypress Bay, Coral Springs Charter, and Goleman High School. The Trojans were also held scoreless in six of those games.
In cross country, the J.P. Taravella boys’ team took first place at South Country Regional Park. Scardy Fils was the lone Trojan to place in the top ten, but they also had Elijas Vessels finish 11th, and Akeem Beckford placed 13th. Craig Dennis and Dominic Martinez came in the top 25, followed by Ali Mustafa, JahRee Pierre, Nakhai Reid, Akeil Kidd, and Saul Flores.
The girls team came in ninth, with Raquel Arne also placing ninth individually. She ran along with Olivia Noel, Giavanna Lionelli, Camille Castillo and Meital Pavolotzky.
Both teams went to Regionals, where the boys team came in sixth. Beckford led the way in this race, followed by Vessels, Fils, Tennis, Martinez, Pierre, and Mustafa.
The girls came in 16th place, with the same runners competing along with Caileen Canales. At the State Championship, the Trojans finished in 32nd place.
In swim, their 200 and 400-yard freestyles qualified for Regionals, while Zane Samms and Zac Bricher made it an individual race. Lenin Hamilton and Michael Michalek will also compete at Regionals, while the girls’ team qualified for three relays.
Mariana Sanchez and Rawani Ceballos earned spots in two races, along with Valentina Ordonez in one. Then, their boys’ 200 freestyle relay and girls 400 freestyle relay teams swam at the State Championship.
J.P. Taravella came in fifth place in the division and qualified as a team, with Marvin Nixon leading the way with 859 in four rounds. Zackary Kimbrell was second with 797, followed by Bryce Collins with 743 and Hunter Woodruff.
Chyanne Vanwinkle and Rey Merajah each bowled in two games and combined for 606 pins. The team was also seeded 15th and lost to the Edgewood Red Wolves in bracket play.
The boys’ soccer team beat McArthur High School 3-0 in their first game but then lost their next two against Western and Pompano Beach High School. The girls team is 3-2 and has a pair of 8-0 wins, along with a 4-1 win over Piper High School.
The boys’ basketball team is 0-2, with losses against Stranahan and Coral Springs High School, while the girls have yet to begin their season. Both teams are set to play against Plantation High School on Tuesday, December 3.
