Summer has flown by, and now it’s time to get back to school!
The Florida Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday starts July 29 and runs through August 11 to help Florida families save some money on essentials. Items like computers, notebooks, #2 pencils, clothing, and many others will be eligible for this short time. Please consider buying extra supplies for those in need or to support our teachers’ classroom wish lists. Learning is the key to future success for all children, and having the proper supplies is crucial to a great classroom experience.
Speaking of learning, during the month of July and the first week of August, the Broward County Library System will be hosting the Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers Annual Summer Reading Tour. These events are a great opportunity to interact with players and broadcasters from the team. Come out with the kids and enjoy. Go Cats!
Are you ready to get out there and explore new flavors in our community? Enjoy a night out on the town, a family meal, or dinner on the go in Broward County. August 1 through September 30 is the Annual “Dine Out Lauderdale” Restaurant Month. Participating eateries throughout the County participate and offer a lunch and/or dinner menu at a preset low price. This is a great chance to check out that place you have always wanted to go to or visit an old favorite, all while supporting our local businesses. To see what’s next on the menu, visit www.visitlauderdale.com/dineout.
August also means peak hurricane season is here. As we saw in June and July, the waters of the Atlantic are very warm and have produced storms like Hurricane Beryl. Now is the time to dust off that hurricane plan, check your supplies, and sign up for special needs hurricane shelters if you need them for medical reasons or for your furry friends. Sign up for emergency alerts with Broward County at Broward.org/hurricane and with your city. Let’s get District 3 Storm-Ready!
Finally, I would like to say thank you to my constituents in District 3. It has been an honor to serve you for two terms and to have earned the honor to represent you for a third term as your County Commissioner. I would also like to extend congratulations to all who were re-elected and elected without opposition, and I would like to wish the best of luck to those who will be running for election in August and November. Remember Primary Election Day is August 20—make sure you vote to make your voice heard.
