A Coral Springs man has been arrested and charged with battery of an elderly person after allegedly assaulting a cigar shop employee.
According to CSPD records, on April 22, officers responded to the Aficionado Cigar Shop at 4678 Coral Ridge Drive. There, they spoke to a victim who claimed an unidentified man, later identified as Gianni Vielot, 30, of Coral Springs, had entered the shop multiple times despite being repeatedly asked to leave.
Both the victim and witnesses described Vielot as an African-American male wearing a blue shirt and khaki pants.
According to the report, the situation escalated when the Vielot reportedly struck the victim on the right side of the face with a closed fist. Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any visible injuries.
Vielot left the scene following the assault but returned shortly, continuing to yell and causing further disturbance before fleeing on foot.
Officers responding to the 911 call searched the area and located Vielot at 4800 Coral Ridge Drive. Despite their attempt to engage peacefully, he allegedly ran towards Northwest 48th Street and was apprehended near a community pool.
Vielot reportedly continued to resist arrest and ignored multiple commands from the officers but was eventually taken into custody, arrested, and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
