Franz Ferdinand and Maxie {Broward County Animal Care}
Franz Ferdinand and Maxie are searching for fresh starts and forever homes through Broward County Animal Care.
Franz Ferdinand, a 2-year-old American Staffordshire terrier mix, arrived as a stray in early April and has spent more than four months at the shelter.
The neutered, 45-pound dog is described by staff and volunteers as sweet, energetic and playful. He enjoys treats and knows basic commands, including “sit.”
Franz Ferdinand has also participated in Broward Buddies, a short-term foster program that allows members of the public to take shelter dogs out for the day. During his outings, he has reportedly been sweet and well-mannered, including around elementary school-age children.
Franz Ferdinand, whose identification number is A2474714, is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. He is available to go home the same day he is adopted.
Maxie, a 5-year-old domestic shorthair cat, arrived at the shelter in late August after his owner died.
Although initially frightened and anxious, the 16-pound cat has become affectionate and enjoys being petted on his head, neck and chin. Shelter staff describe him as a cuddly lap cat who could make a loving companion.
Maxie, whose identification number is A2479925, will be neutered, vaccinated against rabies and microchipped before going to his new home.
Adoption fees for Franz Ferdinand and Maxie are waived. Adopters are responsible only for the $25 Broward County pet registration fee.
The pets are available through Broward County Animal Care, located at 2400 SW 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale. The shelter is open for adoptions daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
