A routine visit to Scenthound in Coral Springs turned into a life-saving moment for a Pomeranian named Beso, thanks to a dedicated employee’s sharp eye and quick actions.
Beso, along with her two brothers, El Rey and Lil Baby, was brought to Scenthound by her owner, Alicia Raskiewicz, for regular grooming and a wellness check.
During the visit, Nami, a Scent tech, conducted a routine head-to-tail health assessment, known as a Scent Check. During this examination, Nami noticed an unusual change in Beso’s private area, which hadn’t been present during the previous month’s visit.
Acting quickly, Nami documented her findings with photos and immediately texted Raskiewicz.
Concerned, Raskiewicz took Beso to the veterinarian the following day.
At the veterinarian’s office, Beso was diagnosed with pyometra, a severe and potentially fatal infection of the uterus. The condition resulting from bacterial invasion can lead to systemic infection and organ failure if untreated.
Fortunately, the vet admitted Beso for emergency surgery to remove the infected uterus.
The procedure was successful, and Beso was discharged into her family’s care shortly after.
According to franchise owner Hector Gonzalez, this incident underscores the importance of routine wellness checks included in Scenthound’s monthly wellness packages. These checks allow potential health issues to be caught before they become life-threatening.
Scenthound, located at 1140 N. University Drive in the Maplewood Shopping Plaza is dedicated to a wellness-based approach to canine health, according to Gonzalez.
The word “scent” in Scenthound stands for skin, coat, ears, nails, and teeth, ensuring the health of all dog breeds. Their “Scent Techs” are trained to give each dog the care it requires — regardless of the breed — and the membership program allows dog parents to have the peace of mind that their dog is cared for on a routine basis, said Gonzalez.
Raskiewicz expressed immense gratitude to the Scenthound team, crediting their meticulous attention and diligence in saving her beloved Pomeranian’s life.
“Our mission is to provide accessible, routine care that keeps dogs healthy and happy,” said Nami. “Stories like Beso’s remind us why our work is so important.”
