The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation recently inspected Sbarro at Coral Square Mall, uncovering eight health violations, including an ongoing roach infestation.
The inspection, which took place on September 20, identified several issues that inspectors indicated would need immediate attention to avoid a complete shutdown of the fast-casual restaurant.
Among the violations was the discovery of roach activity. Inspectors noted in their report that live roaches were found in the kitchen area.
The report also mentions the discovery of dead roaches in a kitchen mixing bowl, which raised immediate concerns about cleanliness and food safety.
Temperature control violations were also observed during the inspection. Several food items, including mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce, and sliced ham, were stored at unsafe temperatures, exceeding the recommended 41°F for cold-held items.
Due to temperature abuse, an immediate stop-sale was issued for the items.
This inspection follows a previous incident in which Sbarro was ordered to shut down on July 15 after discovering a roach issue.
A follow-up inspection will be required for Sbarro to avoid a complete shutdown.
