America’s fallen heroes were honored Monday, May 27, at a Memorial Day Ceremony held at Veterans Park in Coral Springs in partnership with the Veterans Coalition of Coral Springs.
The event featured a keynote speech from Sandi Winters, a U.S. Army veteran who joined the army in 1985.
Winters shared her journey from her first station at the 15th Evacuation Hospital in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to her work in Seoul, South Korea, and her current efforts supporting veterans in Florida.
She serves with the Veterans Coalition of Coral Springs, volunteers at the VA Clinic in Sunrise, and is involved in several other organizations.
Coral Springs Mayor Scott Brook also spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing the significance of Memorial Day.
“Memorial Day is more than just a kickoff to summer; it is a day to reflect and remember the heroes who fought so bravely for our freedoms,” Brook said.
“Because of their selflessness, their valiant actions, and their willingness to protect our nation, we get to enjoy our freedom, and we should never forget what they’ve done for us.”
The ceremony included the Coral Springs Civil Air Patrol presenting the colors and placing the wreath, a Salute Volleyball, the Coral Springs Police Honor Guard playing taps, and remarks from various city officials.
