The J.P. Taravella Symphonic Band earned straight superior ratings from all four adjudicators at the Music Performance Assessment.
The Trojans band performed at Monarch High School on March 13.
Under the guidance of band director Jonathan Cooper, the J.P. Taravella Symphonic Band has embarked on a journey of growth and success. “The students have evolved into a cohesive ensemble over the year. The concept of musical maturity may seem abstract at the start, but through our daily efforts, the students are cultivating the habits of successful musicians,” shared Cooper.
Benjamin Bela, a junior who plays bassoon and serves as the drum major in the marching band, expressed his pride in the band’s achievement. “Earning a superior rating was a testament to our collective effort. We have dedicated ourselves to this goal, and the result is something truly remarkable,” he said.
Bela is looking forward to being a leader in the band next year. “I want to continue improving our performance and earning superior ratings,” he said.
Taravella band members have been selected to perform at prestigious events, including the Florida Music Education Association, All-State Concert and Symphonic Bands, the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music Honor Band, and The Florida State University’s College of Music Tri-State Band Festival and Music.
“Some of our graduating senior students selected for these honors will continue their education in music at the college level,” said Cooper.
Mark your calendars for the Taravella Spring Band Concert, a celebration of the band’s achievements and a showcase of their musical prowess. The concert will take place on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 7 p.m. Middle and high school students and teachers can enjoy the concert for free with a school ID.
