Man Wields Machete, Vows to 'Eat His Body' in Chilling Threat to Landscaper

A Coral Springs man is charged with assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly threatened to kill a landscaping worker and “eat his body.”

On February 5, the Coral Springs Police Department responded to reports of a man threatening victims with weapons near the 8200 block of Northwest 38th Street.

According to the report, upon arrival, officers were told by the victim on the scene that the conflict originated between himself and the man, later identified as Samuel Deorio, 63, of Coral Springs, after a previous encounter on February 3, when the victim, a local landscaping company owner operating Complete Lawn Care, narrowly avoided hitting Deorio who was walking his dog at the time.

The victim told officers the near-miss resulted after he was forced to veer off the road to avoid a collision with another vehicle. Following the incident, a verbal altercation set the stage for Monday’s confrontation.

As the landscaper and his crew worked at a nearby residence, Deorio approached, photographing the company’s truck, leading to an exchange of heated words.

The situation quickly escalated when Deorio allegedly brandished a machete and began yelling threats towards the landscaper, stating, “I’ll cut you to pieces,” and, “I’ll cut you up today.”

It was later discovered during interviews with Deorio himself that he told the victims he would kill them and “eat their bodies.”

Fearing for his safety, the victim, armed only with a water hose, they called 911.

CSPD officers gathered evidence that corroborated the victim’s account, including video surveillance. The footage showed Deorio with the machete, aggressively pointing it at the landscaper.

Despite Deorio’s claim of self-defense, alleging the landscaper had threatened to kill him during their initial dispute, the video evidence and witness statements painted a different picture.

During the police interview, Deorio’s story unraveled, and he ultimately admitted to the altercation. He acknowledged brandishing the machete and making threats but attributed them to his frustration over the earlier traffic incident and perceived threats from the landscaper.

Deorio, on probation at the time of the incident, turned himself in to the Coral Springs Police Department on February 6. He was later transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
