Coconut Creek residents and visitors will see significant improvements on the west side of Lyons Road and south of the Sawgrass Expressway.
During the June 13 meeting, the commission agreed to a resolution to execute a triparty agreement among the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (BMPO), the Metropolitan Transportation Engineering and Construction Cooperative, and the city for improvements to the Lyons Road mobility safety project.
The $3.51 million project includes lighting on the west sidewalk of Lyons Road from 1,200 feet south of NW 6th Manor to Winston Park Boulevard, except for 900 feet north of Sample Road to Cullum Road, for a total project length of 3.66 miles.
The project’s design will begin this summer, and construction will start in late 2026 and be completed in 2028.
Commissioner Joshua Rydell said he is excited about the new lights and supports the project.
Mayor Sandra Welch said she is looking forward to the new lights. “The west side of Lyons Road is really going to look like a showplace,” she said.
