With the spring season over, Coral Springs had over a dozen student-athletes compete in the BCAA All-Star Game.
In flag football, Jada Nicholson and Hailey Stein competed for Coral Glades in their 20-7 win for Team North over South Central. The Jaguars went 2-5-2 and won over West Broward in the regular season before defeating J.P. Taravella in the District Tournament.
The BCAA Volleyball game featured Jackson Brooks from Coral Glades coming off the team’s first District Championship in school history. After beating J.P. Taravella in the final, he was teammates in this match with Andre Mills and Leos Kennedy.
Frank Bumbales of Coral Springs High School coached the game and was joined by Mitch Jean-Mary, Sean Ortiz, and Jullian Ehrenberg. The Colts went 8-7 this year, with Mitch Jean-Mary leading CSHS in kills with 92 while Ortiz finished second with 58. Ehrenberg finished in the top five in kills, aces, blocks, digs, and serve receptions.
Coral Springs Charter’s Mark Montimurro coached the BCAA softball game. It was the final time he got to coach Grace Derstine and Julia Estroff. Derstine, set to attend Warner College in Lake Wales, batted .382 this year. Estroff hit .400 and won a State Championship as a freshman, helping CSC reach the Regional Final after an undefeated regular season and Big-Eight and District Championship.
Seniors Mackenzie Wolfe and Ciara Gendron also were selected after playing for Coral Glades. Wolfe will attend Indian River State College in Fort Pierce after leading Coral Glades with a .426 batting average. Gendron also pitched well and had a home run and 17 RBIs this season.
In baseball, while the All-Star game was canceled due to rain, E.J Burns and J.C Martinez were selected for the home run derby from J.P. Taravella. Burns was the Conference Player of the Year after shining both on the mound and at the plate. He hit .417 with two home runs and 14 RBIs, while Martinez added five home runs. Brandon Metivier and Anthony Giglio recently signed to play college baseball and were picked for the BCAA All-Star Game. Anthony Giglio, Johnathon Lopez, and Mikael Ghann were named to the All-Conference Team.
Coral Springs High School had one selection to the All-Star with Daniel Aneja, while Alexander Montero and Martin Malick were All-Conference members after the Colts went 13-10 this year. Anthony Martin Del Anejo was picked from Coral Glades and had one All-Conference Selection with Andrew Allison.
Coral Springs Charter’s David Austen was selected for the All-Star Game and won a conference award. Jeovani Hernandez was also chosen for the All-Star Game after winning 16 games indue first-year Head Coach Max Boling.
