Rio and Meryl Are Waiting for Forever Homes at Broward County Animal Care

Meryl and Rio {Broward County Animal Care}

Two dogs with plenty of love to give are waiting for their forever families at Broward County Animal Care.

This week’s featured adoptable pets are Rio, an Australian cattle dog mix who has made an impressive recovery since arriving at the shelter, and Meryl, a sweet boxer mix known for her affectionate personality.

Meet Rio

Rio, ID A2477196, is a 5-year-old neutered male Australian cattle dog mix weighing 44 pounds.

He arrived at Broward County Animal Care in early June as a sick and injured stray with flaky skin, hair loss and a limp. After receiving care at the shelter, Rio is looking and feeling much better. His coat has filled in, and he is no longer limping.

Shelter staff describes Rio as friendly and easy to walk, and he appears to be housebroken. He has done well interacting with children and meeting new people and can be social with calm, tolerant dogs following a proper introduction.

Rio occasionally enjoys running and playing and is particularly fond of meaty-flavored treats.

After more than two months at the shelter, Rio is ready to trade shelter life for a home of his own. He is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped and can go home the same day he is adopted.

Meet Meryl

Meryl, ID A2478025, is a 4-year-old spayed female boxer mix weighing 66 pounds.

A favorite among shelter staff and volunteers, Meryl is known for her sweet and cuddly personality. She enjoys playing with soft stuffed toys, walks well on a leash and appears to be housebroken.

Meryl would do best as the only pet in an adult-only household or a home with older children. Shelter staff says she can become nervous around unfamiliar or overly excitable people and animals.

She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped and is ready to head home with the right adopter.

Adoption fees for both Rio and Meryl are waived. Adopters are responsible only for the $25 Broward County pet registration fee.

Rio and Meryl are available at Broward County Animal Care, 2400 SW 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale. The shelter is open daily for adoptions from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

All pets adopted through Broward County Animal Care are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
