A dispute over a gaming console led to the arrest of a man who allegedly stabbed his 12-year-old cousin during an argument at a Sunrise apartment, according to police.

According to a Sunrise Police Department arrest report, Andrew Zagazeta, 28, of Weston, was arrested on July 31 and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in connection with an incident that occurred at an apartment complex in the 12800 block of Vista Isles Drive.

Officers responded to the apartment after receiving reports of a stabbing. When they arrived, they spoke with the great-grandmother of both the suspect and the victim, who said the pair had been arguing over a gaming console.

The woman told investigators she immediately stepped in to separate the two but never saw a knife during the confrontation.

After the argument appeared to end, she followed Zagazeta outside the apartment. Moments later, the 12-year-old approached her and said Zagazeta had stabbed him in the right hip with a knife, according to the report. The child was transported to Broward Health Medical Center.

Detectives later interviewed the victim at the hospital. He told investigators the argument began after Zagazeta used his gaming console without permission.

According to the report, the victim said Zagazeta pushed him before their great-grandmother stopped the fight. The child admitted that during the argument he briefly removed a knife from a kitchen knife block but said he immediately returned it after the great-grandmother separated the two.

Police said the victim told detectives that Zagazeta then retrieved a different knife from behind a television and stabbed him as he walked toward the gaming console.

Zagazeta was booked into the Broward County Main Jail, where he remained on a $20,000 bond.
