As the holiday season winds down and your tree begins to lose its festive luster, it’s time to chip in for a good cause.
Broward County’s annual Chip-a-Tree program is here, offering residents a chance to recycle their Christmas trees sustainably. Over the years, this initiative has helped keep thousands of trees out of landfills, and this year, your tree can be part of the thousands of recyclables.
Running through Monday, January 20, 2025 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day), the program invites Broward County residents to drop off their used holiday trees at one of 11 participating parks. The trees will be chipped and used for landscaping throughout the County park system.
To take part in the program, residents must remove all decorations from their trees. Please note that decorated trees will not be accepted. The program is limited to two trees per vehicle, and only live, real trees are eligible for recycling—artificial trees will not be accepted. Commercial vehicles and garbage trucks are also prohibited from participating.
The good news: there’s no gate entrance fee for recyclers, making it easy for residents to give back to the environment without worrying about additional costs. The program runs daily, giving you ample time to take advantage of after-the-holidays sales before dropping off your tree.
Hours of operation vary by park, so participants are encouraged to call ahead to confirm the drop-off times at their chosen location.
