The Florida Department of Transportation has embarked on a major $13 million road renovation project in Coral Springs.
Rsidents or frequent travelers of University Drive may have noticed a lot of construction work happening recently between the Northwest 40th Street area stretching to the Sawgrass Expressway.
And as you may have gathered – it’s all about updating the city’s roads and infrastructure to handle a city that’s seen quite a spike in population, and traffic, over the last decade.
FDOT’s $13 million road upgrade project will widen the roadway from NW 40th Street to SR-869/Sawgrass Expressway and includes an increase in the width of the bike lanes from 4 feet to 7 feet.
According to the City of Coral Springs, the project is aimed at improving traffic flow and making the area safer for both drivers and cyclists but has seen a bit of recent pushback on social media from concerned residents upset that the modernization of city roads may come at the expense of trees and nature that have lined the area for decades.

While the upgrade is a much-needed improvement, unfortunately, lane closures will occur during non-peak hours, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
